This costume was inspired by the inside cover-art of xxxHolic, volume 1.

The entire costume was made without a patttern and all of the fabric painting was done freehand. This is some of my best work, both in construction (everything is serged and finished properly) and painting. The two purchased pieces were the tuxedo shirt and the dress pants. I made the tuxedo jacket myself, from scratch - without a pattern! *grumbles*

Jacket -

I didn't have a tux jacket to work from, but I wanted to make a tailcoat for this particular costume. Using some reference images from Tuxedo Royal, and one of AlphaZ's jackets are a sizing guide I made this tailcoat. Admittedly it is unlined, but the shape and sizing is fantastic and better than I could have hoped for. The butterflies were hand painted free-hand.

Pants -

AlphaZ tried on at least 10 pairs of pants before finding these. My criteria were fairly simple: no pleats, good fit, less than $30 ;) Painting the butterflies on this was a challenge since I had to remember where his knees would be and work around that.

Shirt -

In the artwork Watanuki wears a shirt with a wing collar. AlphaZ really wanted to find a shirt that also had pleats because it looks nicer. And so the hunt began, ^__^
